Explanation

There is a dry fish wholesale corner at the eastern edge of the Jagalchi Market. These dealers procure supplies by auction at the Marine Products Association of Busan at Nampo-dong.

Dry fish trading began during the Japanese colonial rule about 70 years ago. By the completion of both the reclamation of the southern inlet and the construction of the Yeongdo Bridge in November 1934, this dry fish market corner was already formed.

After the liberation it was then launched in an organized form under the name, the Marine Products Association. Currently, the market comprises about 200 stores with approximately 500 employees, who are active under the guidance of the Market Prosperity Association. They sell all kinds of dried marine products including anchovies, cuttlefish, octopus, lobster, yellow corvina, and seaweed like miyeok, giem, and parae.
The stores also carry other dried products such as chestnuts, dates, and persimmons, along with fresh fruits and different namul. These products are sold at wholesale prices even to the general public.
