Gwangbok-dong Cultural Fashion Street
The Fashion Street 1-beonga of Busan in Gwangbok-dong covers the whole area from Jungang-dong Branch of Korea Investment Trust, located at the approach to Gwangbok-dong district, up to the former Mihwadang Department, the Busan Contemporary History Hall (the former U.S. Cultural Center), and finally up to the entrance of the International Market.
About one hundred boutiques line the streets of this area with colorful show windows.
These stores carry mostly foreign brands and high-quality clothes that are currently in vogue. Prices are a secondary concern for customers who seek products known all over the world for their quality. Considering that so many popular boutiques are located over such a small area, this street may well be called a Fashion Paradise.
Gwangbok-dong Cultural Fashion Street
The Gwangbok-dong community regularly promotes the Gwangbok-no Street Saturday Event and the Gwangbok-no Festival.
An inventive statue named the City Spot stands in front of the former Mihwadan Department, symbolizing Busan citizens' commitment to the new millennium fashion. The Busan community has produced a copper plate bearing the messages sent from the mayors of 22 different cities from 19 friendly nations around the world. These messages congratulate the citizens for the progressive image of Busan on the occasion of the dawning of the new century.
The Junggu community has undertaken a series of projects to be designated by the Central Government as eligible for governmental support for the renovation of the Gwangbok-no Street. The goal is to make the street revolve around a theme that is appropriate to the new millennium. The projects include the renovation plan to establish a commercial district covering the entire areas of Gwangbok-dong, inclusive of Mt. Yongdu Park and the PIFF Plaza, connecting to the International Market. The projects also include hosting various events on a regular basis in order to transform the area into a cultural attraction for the younger market.
