In 1982, the government officially announced that the entire site would be developed into a public park. By July 7, 1983, the completion of the construction work was announced, and the park was inaugurated under the new name "Jungang Park" in 1986.
There is a great memorial tower soaring 70 m high at the northern edge of the park, making it visible from every corner of the metropolis. This is the "Chunghon Tower," dedicated to the loyal national policemen and military personnel of Busan. They assisted in the cause of our fatherland since its foundation in 1945. In the main hall of the tower there are nine columns. Each column has a space shaped in a half circle to serve as a mortuary at its bottom. Each mortuary is arranged with a number of memorial tablets, bearing the names of the dead.
Yongdusan art gallery, 2004'The 8,954 tablets are seated in the mortuaries (7,417 tablets are from the army, 355 are from the navy, 557 from the police, 31 belong to civilians attached to the military, 134 from civilian physical work, 101 from patriotic groups, and 302 from others).
In addition to the tower, Jungang Park has entertainment facilities. It features a flower garden with various flowers in bloom throughout the four seasons, a hiking trail along the circling mountain lanes, and sporting establishments, all of which are available to the public. The park is located on a higher level than the other parks in the metropolis, which makes it a great place to enjoy the holidays.
