The Statue of Chungmoogong(Admiral Yi Sun-Sin)
 

This statue is Chungmoogong(Admiral Yi Sun-sin) as the sun rescuing our nation from danger.

His name is Sun-sin, Ja is Yeohae, and his poet's pen name is Chungmoogong
He was born on April 28 in 1545(in the first year during the reign of King Injong), passed his examination for military officer in 1576(in the 9th year during the reign of King Sunjo), promoted to the Jeolla-do(province) Soogunjeoldosa(Naval major) by the recommendation of Yoo Seongryong in 1591, then devoted himself to prepare military armaments.

In 1592, Japan invaded the Joseon Dynasty to pave the way for its incursion into China, which is called YimjinWaeran. At sea, Admiral Yi Sun-sin led a series of brilliant naval maneuvers against Japanese that wanted to go through the Yellow sea in the souther sea including Okpo, Sachun, Danghangpo, Hansanpo, Angolpo, Woongchun, Busan, etc., so he was appointed to the Naval General controlling Sam-do(three provinces).
There was a momentary lull in the fighting for a few years, then he prepare for many major things like training military soldiers, doing enough armaments, protecting refugees, and encouraging industry, he absolutely repulsed the enemy in Myeongryang during the Jeongyoojaeran in 1597(in the 30th year during the reign of King Sunjo), but he passed away gloriously at dawn on November 19, 1598(in the 31st year during the reign of King Sunjo) to fight with 500 enemy battle ships gathering in front of the Rohryangjin sea.
Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who is very faithful, strategically brilliant, and brave general, won every single fight against enemies for 7 years, then saved our country and peoeple through dislodging these enemies overriding all over our territory, furthermore he's very good at writing, so remained many famous masterpieces like Nanjung(during War) Diary, and Shijo(Korean Poem) in his lifetime.

History : Erected with a view to pay a tribute for Admiral Yi Sun-sin's military honor and spead out his patriotic spirit

Size : 12 meters in height, 3.8 meters in depth, and 3.8 meters in length


A great patriot and glorious leader, Chungmoogong(Admiral Yi Sun-sin) is standing here throughout our whole history with all the Korean people. He is the real pride, glory, power, and also life of our country as the sun of whole people. Earlier, He was born in Seoul on March 8, 1545(in the 1st year during the reign of King Injo), spent 54 years, then passed away gloriously by enemy's shells at dawn on November 19, 1598(in the 31st year during the reign of King Sunjo), however his greatly patriotic and brave spirit for the crumbling country with only his hand shall not disappear, it will exist with our rivers and hills all over the country forever, and his blood shedded for this country was absorbed and falling into every single blood vessels of all the people like one's children and grandchildren here.
To importunately erect his statue here is the reason why this is the very place by Japanese enemy first stepped and attacked during Yimjinwaeran, additionally we have to remember and recollect all the bad memories as from here, the main entrance of our country to preserve and express sincerely patriotic spirits. All the people, as offsprings of the same forefather, he is still living in our hearts.
His volition steamed all over this country will be high and mighty for so long.
