This is the stairs from Jungang-dong subway station to Donggwang-dong.
It's called as "Forty Steps" and aimed from that the number of stairs is 40. Many refugees having lived near Youngju-dong and Donggwang-dong board shacks go up and down many times everyday during 6.25 Korean War refugee life. A black market about dollars and relief supplies were also in this Forty Steps. To relieve some joy and sorrow in our past life as well as recollect those times, it was newly fixed and this monument was installed. Its monument says the lyric of "Gyeongsangdo Agassi" and the history of Forty Steps.

"The 1st Forty Steps Memorial K-Pop Concours" was held by the support of Donggwang-dong Office on March 2, 1999.
A Full Moon Day(the 15th of the first Memorial month(lunar)) Festival with a harmony of residents
It'll be held with the related theme of Busan like "Busan Stop of Parting" etc. annually.(accompanied with Yooknolyi)
The background of Korean film "No Need for Mercy" released July 31st is all over Jungang-dong, The first scene hints at the murder to be committed at the "Forty Steps".
