In August 1993, after a cleanup of the Forty Steps slope, a monument was built to commemorate the project's completion.

The Donggwang-dong Administrative Office initiated an event to greet the full moon at the Forty Steps slope, which was the beginning of the "Forty Steps Cultural Festival."
The Junggu autonomouse districts community, inclusive of the people from Donggwang-dong, now holds this festival annually.

The event commemorates the nation's triumph over dire hardship experienced during the Korean War.

Here citizens can reflect on moments of national joy and sorrow, and remember their home in the North. The "Forty Steps Cultural Hall" is a cultural space featuring displays of our district's historical and cultural heritage, including reminders of the difficult life during the war.
