Baeksan Memorial Hall
This memorial hall built in the celebration of the 50th anniversary Korean Liberation Day. Baeksan
Memorial Hall was built in commemoration of Baeksan, or Mr. An Huije, for his contribution to the Anti-Japanese Independence Movement. The very location of this memorial hall is significant because this is where the Baeksan Company (1914 - 1919) was established. Mr. An Huije was committed to raising funds through his enterprise to support the independence movement. His company expanded over time and was renamed the Baeksan Trading Company (1919 - 1928), through which he provided financial support to the Provisional Government of Korea in Shanghai, China, as well as to various domestic independence movement organizations.

In addition to financial backing, Mr. An Huije also exerted efforts to make his company a stronghold for independence movements by serving as the link to all organizations located inside and outside the country.
Baeksan, or Mr. An Huije, was one of the few national entrepreneurs at the time when our country was forcefully annexed to imperial Japan in the early 20th century. Unlike many of the other entrepreneurs, he committed himself to restoring the lost national sovereignty through advancements in national education, national enterprise, and anti-Japanese press.
His alias was Taeyak, and he often wrote under the pen name Baeksan. Born in Gangjin, where he spent his entire childhood, he was taught Chinese literature.
Baeksan's Chinese passages are well known and read by many people.
After the Russo-Japanese War and the Korean-Japanese Agreement (November 7, 1905), he committed himself to the doctrine of enlightenment, and promoted the ideas of national liberation and independence as the means to retrieve national sovereignty.
Baeksan Memorial Hall thus helps future generations remember his unwavering patriotism.
